Using A Pressure Washer vs. A Regular Hose

When it comes to cleaning the exterior of your home, you have a choice between pressure washers and garden hoses. Both are effective for cleaning purposes, but there are some differences to consider.

One major advantage of pressure washers is their water efficiency. Compared to garden hoses, pressure washers use significantly less water. These powerful machines use high-pressure water jets to blast away dirt, grime, and even stubborn stains from surfaces like decks, driveways, and sidewalks. But let’s take a closer look at each option to find out which one is right for you.

Let’s start with garden hoses. In the US, they come in three sizes, ranging from 25ft to 100ft. The larger the diameter, the less resistance you’ll encounter. For example, a 3/4-inch hose can be twice as long as a 5/8-inch hose yet maintain the same pressure as a pressure washer. Garden hoses can handle anywhere from 70 to 150 PSI, which is comparable to a pressure washer.

Now, let’s compare the pros and cons of pressure washers and garden hoses. Garden hoses are great for cleaning your lawn and garden, but they might accidentally harm your plants if you use high-pressure water. Depending on the model, a garden hose may be more convenient, but a pressure washer offers a more efficient full-home cleaning experience. Plus, pressure washers make it easier to reach challenging areas and are more environmentally friendly than garden hoses.

When it comes to exterior cleaning, choose the tool that suits your needs and provides the best results.
